Learn how to remove your organization’s managed data from Microsoft Edge.
When you want to customize the operating system, browser or other applications on your computer, you may sometimes encounter unexpected changes or quirks. Managing your organization’s email in Microsoft Edge is one of those quirks that can come out of nowhere. This article shows you how to remove the message Managed by your organization from Microsoft Edge.
It is important to say right away that you should not try to delete this message on a computer that is in your workplace. Most likely, your system administrator applies certain corporate policies to the device and your user profile is not allowed to change them. However, if you see a Managed by Your Company message in Microsoft Edge on your PC, you can easily get rid of it.
Why does the messageappear?
The message only states that some Edge settings are controlled by Group Policy in the registry. If you follow Winaero manuals and tutorials, you’ve probably noticed that our manuals often include multiple methods to perform a task. For example, you can set the timeout for the Sleep tab through the Edge settings or by modifying the registry (the latter option applies the settings to all users and they cannot change the time). It often involves making special settings in the Windows registry that are also used in the corporate environment to enforce corporate policies.
Often these restrictions are designed to prevent users from changing browser settings on corporate computers. Windows (Server) installs registry changes on Active Directory/domain computers and does not allow changes without administrator rights. For this reason, Edge displays the message Managed by your organization.
Remove a managed entity from Microsoft Edge
- Start the Windows Registry Editor. Press Win + R on your keyboard and type regedit in the output box.
- Go to the next key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoft.
- Find the Edge folder and right-click on it.
- Select Delete from the menu.
- You can also delete all the settings in this folder.
- Restart your browser. The message should disappear.
Or you can just download a ZIP file with the registration file that will do the job for you. Again, you can only run it on your personal computer, under a user account with administrator privileges.
Download registry files
- Download this ZIP file.
- Unlock the downloaded file.
- Unzip the contents to a folder of your choice.
- Double-click the Remove managed entity from Edge.reg message and confirm the changes in the Windows Registry.
You’re done. Removing the Edge registry key resets all Group Policy settings to their default values, unlocks locked Edge options, and removes the listed message. If you do not want to configure certain settings for all users of the computer, we recommend using Edge settings instead of the Registry Editor / Edge policies.
